What are your health and fitness goals for 2019?

Scroll down to content

It’s been the first week of the new year, so how are your health/fitness goals for 2019 coming along?  What have you decided to do differently this year?

I have set a goal of committing to exercise at least four days a week. ( I would love to exercise daily but I am setting a lower goal of four so I won’t spiral out if I miss a day. Progress, not perfection. So far this year I have worked out 5 of the first 7 days of January.

As far as diet, I have been Vegan/Vegetarian (I tend to alternate due to my love of cheese and eggs) since the end of July last year and plan on sticking with it. I also have decided to post my food journal online as a way of keeping me mindful and accountable. The first entry is scheduled here tonight. My calorie goal is around 1200-1600 calories depending on the day and my mood/energy level.  So far so good on that one.

But really, this post is about YOU. What are your goals?  Let’s discuss and support and encourage each other

  1. So right now I am sick and trying to keep up with a healthy eating and exercise plan. So far so good. I am tracking my healthy habits in a cross-platform app called toodle do and I wear a fitbit.

      1. Thanks! I have been using it for years and it keeps all my past history. It’s a good way for me to set goals and keep on track. And by looking back through the data, I was able to see a direct correlation between ‘falling off the wagon’ and increased resting heart rate. I am very motivated to get that number back down in the low 70s, high 60s. I started with the entry level model (flex) and then upgraded to one after a while that could tally flights climbed. You can also ‘friend’ others with fitbits and have step challenges. We did that at work for a while…it was fun until a few got too competitive and started faking their steps, lol.

      2. Wow, that sounds pretty good. I definitely need to look into one, Perhaps as a ‘reward’ for six months on program. I could definitely see myself getting competitive. lol

  2. I’m trying to get more definition, strength and flexibility! I have a pretty good gym schedule, but my biggest issue is food – I love eating out, so I’ll either have to reduce that or be even more conscious of what I eat during the week. I was debating about finding a vegan meal plan to help me get enough protein in to build muscle, because I definitely don’t get enough! We can do this!

    1. Yes we can! Are you still in Indonesia? I would imagine Vegan would be pretty easy given all the delicious food there. Can you do tofu for the protein? If you can get online much myfitnesspal.com has been a big help in tracking my food. So glad to hear from you. Hope all is well.

      1. Haha! Surprisingly not that easy – or it is, if I want to spend a lot of money on things like beans and lentils when I fancy a change from tofu and tempeh! I mean, that stuff is good, but not everyday. Indonesian dishes are also really heavy on beef and chicken, so whilst I’ve found a few vegan dishes, there aren’t too many traditional ones! I loved MyFitnessPal when I was losing weight – it was great help. All is good, hope all is good with you?

  3. In 2019, I’d wish to add some more weight. I feel that I need to bulk up so I can do more strength training especially now that I’m in my 30s. Thanks for the encouragement(s) grandpa!

  4. I am after the muscle up. Getting into calisthenics has been quite humbling thus far but I vow to make some big strides in 2019. My first ever spartan races is already penciled in for June so training hard and staying fit!

    1. Ah Cheese, it’s also my second love too. I have to be careful about it, as it is a real ‘trigger food’ for me. Sort of like an alcoholic and a martini. I’m trying to alternate from vegan to vegetarian every other month so i have months when I can eat cheese, but it’s a slippery slope for me but a delicious one at that.

  5. I’m really just trying to workout everyday, and cut out on fast foods and fizzy drinks, but the working out everyday isn’t going as planned lol
