Seems by the late 70s everyone was coming out with a disco record. Even many decidedly non-disco acts were doing it including Kiss and The Rolling Stones. So it was only a matter of time until one of my favorite bands growing up, The Electric Light Orchestra would succumb to the throbbing base laden siren. Their 1979 album “Discovery” or “Disco? Very!” as we purists called it, was full of disco or dance-inspired tracks. Some like “Last train to London” actually wasn’t too bad but others like “Shine a little light” was cloying and beneath their talent. But from out of this album came their biggest hit in America “Don’t bring me down” Is it Bruce? or “Cruz” I couldn’t ever figure out the lyrics entirely but always thought it was a fun song.
