What’s the next story on Globetrotting Grandpa? You get to decide.
I’ll give you some ideas I am considering, and you get to vote on which one you’d like to read more about. You can vote here in the comments, on the Facebook page or email me at globetrottinggrandpa@hotmail.com . I’ll tally the votes, and the winner will be next week’s post
A) Lost Byrd
He was the most famous person ever to come from my hometown. He graduated from the same high school I did. He was a member of one of the most influential American bands of all time. His band was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, had a couple number one songs on the Billboard charts, and was praised by such icons as Bob Dylan and Sir Paul Mccartney. Bands from the Eagles to the Bangles personally cite him as a significant influence. And yet, there isn’t even so much as a plaque honoring him in my hometown, and if you were to ask a random person there who he was, they probably wouldn’t have heard of him, So we explore the life and death of Gene Clarke and the monumental band he helped make world famous.
B) Equality House
Martin Luther King once famously stated “Hate can not drive out hate. Only Love can do that”. We explore the history of “equality House’ in Topeka, Kansas. Which sits directly across the street from the Westboro Baptist Church. A universally recognized hate group initially established by the late Fred Phelps. We learn about the origins of Equality House and how it tries to stand as a beacon of hope for the LBGT community of Eastern Kansas.
C) Confessions of a Las Vegas Impressionist
A couple of years ago, I visited Las Vegas for the first time. I decided to go with a completely open mind, and I kept a journal and recorded my thoughts on all of the major hotels/casinos on the strip. We will explore all the significant places, and I’ll give you my one or two-word first impression of each of them. The ones I loved, the ones I didn’t, and the ones that stunk (and I mean literally stuck, as in they smelled like Lysol and stale cigarette smoke. ) I will give you my honest opinion and pray; they don’t ban me afterward.
So there you are. Four picks. Just vote A, B, C, This evening I will tally up the votes and run the story you pick. So vote in the comments here or on the facebook page or email me at globetrottingrandpa@hotmail.com and may the best story win!
