21 Days of Gratitude Day 11 “A Joyful Noise”

As we enter this new year, I want to take the next three weeks to make daily posts about things I am grateful for. There was an old hymn I heard growing up called “Count your blessings”. So since I believe gratitude begets blessings, (and we all could use a little more of that,) Come with me as we go on this journey of thankfulness.

“If music be the food of love, play on” to me, music has been much more than just the food of love, it has been the food of my soul. Gratitude would be an almost inept way of describing the deep appreciation and awe I have for this wonderful gift. One of my most constant and reliable of friends, music has been a part of my life as far back as I can grasp memory. My earliest reminiscences have been of a song on the radio, a church hymn or my mother singing. I think I understood music before I even understood language.

Remind me to tell you the “Grand Ole Opry story” sometime. This is one of my favorite pictures of me.

Music has soothed my melancholy and buoyed me in times of ebullience. It is the soundtrack of most of my memories, and to this day can still transport me back in time. Even songs that remind me of sad times take me back there in a safe way where I can hold the feeling of hurt and not feel it so deeply. It is almost therapeutic the way it helps me. Music is how God speaks to me, and the voice that I hear is beautiful beyond measure
