80 years until Spring: 1981

Every day from now until Spring, I will play a song from each year from 1940-2020. I’ll also write a little bit about the song and why I chose it to represent that year.

Had some work and personal issues arise. Sorry to be running a bit behind but I’ll get caught up by Tuesday.  “Just like starting over” could be the most ironic song title in history. We all know how that ended. John Lennon tended to elicit strong reactions from people. Some people loved him others like my mother couldn’t stand him. (She’s very religious and the whole “Jesus and the Beatles” comment really didn’t sit well with her). Prior to Lennon’s murder, I liked the song very much. 1981 was a year of starting over for me. I had lost a bunch of weight and had my first job (at McDonald’s) so I was starting to have a little money I could call my own, I had a job for most of my sophomore year and all of my junior and senior years. Since my mother didn’t like the Beatles we never really got to listen to them much growing up. It wasn’t until my senior year and college that I began to admire their music. So when he died I was sad, but I didn’t really get the grief until later. I have a companion post I wrote about the life of John Lennon
