Every day from now until Spring, I will play a song from each year from 1940-2020. I’ll also write a little bit about the song and why I chose it to represent that year.
“She’s got electric Boobs, My Mom has two, you know I read it in a magazine” Needless to say I am the King of misheard lyrics. Actually, in this particular instance, it wasn’t my fault. The neighbor kid Chris Clark told me that was the lyric. He seemed to know a lot about music so I believed him. Looking back, he probably knew I was a bit on the gullible side and wanted to have a little fun at my expense.
Elton John was one of the “Big Three” back in my middle school days (along with Queen and the Electric Light Orchestra). My brother Devin got me hooked on Elton. He had all his albums growing up (they even share the same birthday) I was too young to notice the flamboyant style of Elton (or Freddy for that matter) as anything other than just plain cool eccentric theater. I didn’t even get shocked when he came out (even back in my hardcore Southern Baptist days) because it was just who he is. Fundamentalism and I were never a good fit, but that’s a story for another day.
