I’m rowing with Anne, we’re told we’ll reach an island, it may just be talk”

Sorry a bit cryptic. Anne is Anne Sexton a poet I admire. She had a book called “The awful rowing toward God”. The haiku is about the unknown. Rowing toward someone, somewhere, something that may not even exist. The fearful moments when you’re striving toward a dream with no land in sight.
