podlPenny Lane is more than just a Beatles song, it is an actual location in Liverpool, England. Paul McCartney wrote this song reminiscing about the times he and John Lennon would sit at the bus stop on the roundabout and wait to get a ride into the city center.  From the Bus Stop, you can survey all the locations described in the song.

Penny Lane, there is a barber showing photographs
Of every head, he’s had the pleasure to have known
And all the people that come and go
Stop and say “Hello”

On the corner is a banker with a motorcar,
And little children laugh at him behind his back
And the banker never wears a mac
In the pouring rain, very strange

In Penny Lane, there is a fireman with an hourglass,
And in his pocket is a portrait of the Queen
He likes to keep his fire engine clean,
It’s a clean machine

Behind the shelter in the middle of the roundabout
The pretty nurse is selling poppies from a tray
And though she feels as if she’s in a play,
She is anyway. The Shelter has since been torn down and replaced with a restaurant called “Sargent Pepper’s Bistro”

Penny Lane is actually not that long of a road. it starts out in a residential area and after you go over a bridge that covers the railroad track it turns into a business area. You can easily walk the area in less than an hour or so. Also up the road at number 60 is the former home of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury
