Well, it’s been raining all day here in Kansas City. The rain, cloudy skies, and stress have awakened my Irish melancholy. I am too overwhelmed by work (my real job) to post anything today. I have some nice ones in the hopper though, that hopefully will see the light of day in the next few days. But for now since we occasionally post poetry here I wanted to share with you one of my favorite “rain poems”. Actually it isn’t a poem but a song. “Kathy’s Song” in fact. It was written by Paul Simon and sung by Art Garfunkel. The lyrics are just so beautiful and personal to me.

I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and wallsAnd from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England, where my heart lies

My mind’s distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you’re asleep
And kiss you when you start your day

And a song I was writing is left undone
I don’t know why I spend my time
Writing songs I can’t believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme

And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you

And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I.

I just love the poem/song. I do miss England (and Scotland, Wales and Ireland both Northern and  the Republic) Hopefully soon I can return. Rest assured I will be blogging and posting all sorts of great pictures. But for now, I just have to hold on and know the rain and gray skies  (both environmentally and spiritually) will eventually pass.
So what is your favorite rain song or poem I’d really love to hear it!

  1. Those two wrote some great songs, didn’t they? Where would the seventies have been without “Sounds of Silence,” “Mrs. Robinson,” “He Ain’t Heavy,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”? Or, oh oh oh — d’ye happen to remember a schitsy little ditty called “At the Zoo”? Haha! “Someone told me it’s all happenin’ at the zoo. I do believe it — I do believe it’s true…” 😊

      1. As they say these days, OMG, LOL! That’s a zoo with a sense of humor! I just loved that song for some reason. But then, I was fourteen, and loved all their songs. (Oh, wait, I still do!) “Sounds” wasn’t first solo vocal performance — quite the experience…
